One of the most exciting developments has been the availability of Custom-Fitted golf clubs, and the technology available to support it.
At Prestonfield we now have a Vector launch monitor for custom fittings. The vector launch monitor allows us to precisely measure golf ball launch conditions including ball speed, launch angle, back and side spin rates. From this data we can build a picture of which clubs or shafts may best suit your individual swing.
Along side the launch monitor fittings we also provide a traditional iron "loft and lie" fitting service. What is loft and lie fitting you ask. The technology for testing this is very simple. We put impact tape on the sole of the club – and get you to hit some balls off a lie testing board. This leaves amark on the tape when you hit a ball off it. If everything is standard, the tape will be marked where the centre of the sole is and the clubs are fine. If it’s marking towards the toe, lie angle is too flat, and towards the heel, too upright. If the lie angle is incorrect on your clubs then the heel or toe of the club will impact the turf heavily and cause the club to be closed or open at impact
It’s worth noting that because an incorrect lie angle causes the plane (and therefore, loft) of the club to become tilted, getting the lie angle correct is vitally important particularly on short irons. A 9 iron with an incorrect lie angle of 3 degrees can cause an inaccuracy of up to 11yds!
Once we have established whether or not the lie angles need tweaking, most clubs can be usually altered within a few days or a new set ordered to suit
Launch Monitor fitting are available at £50 for the hour fitting, loft and lie fittings for £15 for the 1/2 hour
