CLUB NEWS
With the upcoming open day in mind, We will be running a leaflet drop to distribute open day flyers in the houses in the vicinity of the golf club. We require as many members help as possible on the night of the 30 th June to get these leaflets out.
Any members interested in helping should either contact Carol or Gavin to register their name.
Helpers should meet at 6pm at the golf club, with a finger buffet and drink for everyone on returning from the drop. This proved an extremely successful form of advertising for the last open day, but is only possible with your help.
If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining give them a poster

Pitchmark Repair information
Studies have shown that pitchmarks not repaired at all recover better than those not repaired properly, but properly repaired pitchmarks recover significantly better.
A reminder of the correct method is shown Here
DRINKING UP TIME
Members are reminded that the drinking up time is 15 minutes after the bar has stopped serving and not 30 minutes as some members seem to think.
This is the law and the fact that we are a private members club makes no difference to this.
eMAIL ADDRESSES
A regular email update is now being sent out to all members who have an email address on file and a large number are being returned as there is something wrong with the address. If you have not received any updates recently you should contact the General Manager to find out why.
LOCAL RULE FOR DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES
Council has decided to introduce the following local rule
For all play at Prestonfield Golf Club a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.
LAPSED HANDICAPS
The Scottish Golf Union has imposed severe restrictions on members whose handicaps have lapsed, the following are the guidelines that the Club will be adhering to.
-
Any member who failed to hand in three competition scores last year will have had their handicap lapsed.
-
Any member whose handicap has lapsed will be unable to compete in a competition that requires a Council of National Golf Union handicap, ie all Prestonfield Stroke or Match Play Competitions.
-
To regain a handicap a member will require to submit three qualifying scores over 18 holes, each of which will require to be signed by a fellow member.
-
A qualifying score for the purpose of regaining a handicap is one played over 18 holes on a measured course.
-
Any member who was allocated a handicap during 2007 will not have their handicap lapsed this year but will require to submit three scores this year to avoid being lapsed in 2008.
-
The Club has, in very exceptional circumstances, the discretion not to lapse the handicap of a member who has failed to return the required number of cards due to ill-health or injury although this discretion is expected to be infrequent.
Any queries regarding this matter should be referred to the Director of Golf.
Please remember to replace all divots, repair all pitch marks and use the sand and seed provided on the tees.
